TANGO

The TANGO (Digital Technologies ActiNg as a Gatekeeper to information and data flOws) Project aims to establish a citizen-centric, secure and reliable cross-sectoral data sharing architecture, developing innovative solutions that simultaneously address environmental degradation and climate change challenges.

With 37 key partners from 13 countries, TANGO aims to provide a high-impact solution across transport, e-commerce, finance, government, tourism and industrial sectors to support public and private beneficiaries across Europe.

The platform will foster trustworthy and digitally enabled interactions across society to support decentralized applications, harnessing the power of emerging digital technologies, to strengthen privacy for citizens and private/public entities, reduce costs and improve productivity.

TANGO focuses its activities on 3 main pillars:

Deploying trusted resources, technologies and platforms for secure and privacy-friendly data sharing;

Building data governance models;

Improving data availability, quality and interoperability.

ABI Lab has been entrusted with the coordination of a pilot in the banking sector whose focus, defined through a shared path with the banks, will be Anti-Fraud Detection.

The experimentation aims to facilitate banks in the construction of robust artificial intelligence (AI) models, through Federated Learning (FL), which represents an opportunity to allow organizations to exploit AI in an effective and collaborative way using data in compliance with regulations on security and confidentiality.

The process is based on the sharing of models among members of a network.

The two main advantages for each member are:

improvement of the performance of shared models;

updating of models to emerging phenomena, observed by a few members of the network.

Each entity trains a model on its own data and shares it with a central node, without sharing the data necessary for training and evaluation. The central node generates a global model by aggregating the models received and distributes it to the federated entities, cyclically.

The TANGO project, launched in the third quarter of 2022, will end in 2025.
